BJJ VS. WRESTLING
Both sports revolve around grappling, but they reward different outcomes. Here is the practical difference between the two games.

The biggest difference: what counts as winning

BJJ
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu places a large emphasis on ground positions, guard, passing, escapes and submissions.
In BJJ, the game is built around positional control, sweeps, passes and submissions. In wrestling, the objective centers on takedowns, control and pinning or accumulating points under the ruleset.
Standing and takedowns
BJJ includes takedowns, but many classes spend more time on ground positions and submissions. Wrestling places much more emphasis on stance, hand fighting, level changes, takedowns, rides and scrambling.

Ground game
BJJ gives you a large technical vocabulary for guard, passing, escapes and submissions. Wrestling’s ground game is organized around control, turns, escapes and maintaining top pressure within its scoring system.
Why they cross over
The skill sets complement each other. Wrestling can provide takedowns, pace and scrambling; BJJ can add guard work, submission threats and a deeper finishing game on the ground.
